Far Infrared Sauna

How should I prepare for my treatment?

  • Please plan to wear a clean bathing suit as the light will not penetrate your clothing. A towel will be provided.

  • Be sure to eat a snack or small meal an hour or two before your appointment.

  • Avoid deodorant, lotions, makeup, perfume, or other skin products prior to sauna use.

  • Avoid sugar, drinking alcohol, or caffeine before and after.

  • Drink plenty of water before and after your treatment. Upon waking the day of your session, we recommend two liters of warm water with juice from half a fresh lemon.

  • Contraindications: If you have any health conditions, such as high blood pressure, bleeding disorder, or heart conditions, are under medical care, or are on medications that inhibit the body's ability to sweat, please get cleared by your doctor before your first session. Do not use it if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Avoid sauna use for 48 hours after an acute injury.

What does the treatment consist of?

First-time users are encouraged to use a temperature of 120°F for the first couple of sessions, staying no longer than 20 minutes to see how the body reacts to the heat. Even though saunas are considered safe, you will want to take caution not to overheat or become dehydrated. While in the sauna, feel free to relax, read, meditate, and listen to music—don't take a nap. We recommend one session a week for the first couple of weeks.

Pat your skin dry with a clean towel frequently during the sauna to remove sweat, which contains toxins you do not want to reabsorb through your skin.  Afterward, pat dry with a towel as the oils in your skin are enhanced with a far infrared sauna, so showering is not advised.

As you get comfortable with the treatment, gradually increase the time, temperature, and/or frequency of visits.  Recommended frequency two to three times per week.  Maximum of one 40-minute session per day.
